KEEN DEMAND FOR SHEEP. DAIRY CATTLE MOVING TIP. CONDITIONS IN TARANAKT. (From Our Own Correspondent..) NEW PLYMOUTH, Saturday. Steady trading and a still further firming of fat sheep prices and an improvement in the demand for dairy cattle have been the features of the live stock market in Taranaki during the week. Sales of fat ewes include truck lots at from 21/6 to 22/6 for extra prime sheep. Fat wethers continue to display a hardening tendency, with quotations few and far between. Sales of truck lots have been effected at from 29/6 to 31/ for extra prime sheep. Hoggets remain firm with a keen demand. A very keen demand exists for all classes of store sheep, difficulty being experienced in obtaining quotations. Values of four and live-year ewes range from 25/6 to 28/, with two and four-tooth ewes from 30/ to 33/ for top sheep. Ewe hoggets are in keen demand, sales including a line at 23/6. Values of wether hoggets range from 17/6 to 19/. Values for fat cattle remain on a par with those of last week, and sales include extra prime fat heifers at up to £6, lighter sorts £5 to £5 10/, extra prime fat cows to £5 10/ and lighter sorts £5. Store cattle values rt main on a par with a fairly keen demand, sales including a line of four-year Hereford bullocks at £5. Young cattle are fairly keenly sought after with an improving demand in sight. Cows and Heifers Wanted. As is natural at this time of the year, sales of dairy cows and heifers constitute the bulk of the business, and siuce last week <i large volume of business lias' been transacted. Sales of extra choice two-year dairy heifers include 80 to a northern buyer in truck lots at from £5 15/ and £5 17/6 to £6. Other sales include 22 extra choice heifers afc £5 15/, 16 at £5 5/, 18 at £13, and numerous truck lots at from £4 15/ to £5 10/. Sales of three-year cattle include a very good line to an outside buyer at £6, with a line of extra good Shorthorn heifers at £5. Several herds sold on a forward delivery basis have been lifted this week. Further sales include a choice herd of 70 third calvers at £6 10/, with a small herd at £6. An improving demand is apparent in the rapid disposal of weaner heifers. Sales of extra choice cattle have been made at up to £2 15/, with a further line of 40 at £2. other sales including lots at £2 and'3s/ to 30/ for more inferior sorts. The rush of store cattle to the yard sales has cased somewhat, dairy stock constituting the bulk of the yardings.

PAPAKURA DAIRY SALE. The Papakura dairy sale, conducted by the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Company, Limited, on Friday, brought forward more than the advertised list. There was keen competition and late rates were fully maintained. Best dairy cows close to profit brought from £4 to £6 10/; backward cows, £2 10/ to £3 15/; best dairy heifers made from £4 10/ to £5 5/; others, £4 5/; backward sorts made 35/ to 50/. A very serviceable farm horse made £8. Sundries commanded the ruling rates.
