SOME GAINS MAINTAINED,

Business opened quietly on the Auckland Stock Exchange to-day, last "w eck s closing values being generally reinstated. Among banking shares Commercials were still dull between 15/9 and 16/1, and New Zealands showed a margin of 9d, with buyers at £2 8/, and sellers up 3d, at £2 8/9. The D Mortgage scrip maintained its recent improvement, being quoted at £1 14/1 and £1 14/3. Insurance shares were indifferent, and ■best buyers of Nationals remained at 19/, 6d below holders. No offers were made for New Zealands. • The interest in Taupiri Coals was indicated by an advance in the bidding to make tlie range 13/9 to 14/0. P. and O. deferred stock showed a gain of 9d in value since a fortnight ago, and more were" wanted at the new price, with holders asking 1/ more. Timaru Ale recorded their first local transaction for a considerable time, and made a substantial rise. Increasing strength among fertiliser scrip was evidenced by the higher price paid for Dominions in their first Auckland sale for six months. i Tanners' Trading were firm, more being wanted at 5/3, while holders stood at a penny higher. In the mining section oners of 14/ tor Talismans failed to bring any response. 'Kins Solomons seemed steadier, v ltli tlie range between 3/5 and 3/8. ' Government securities showed signs of being more plentiful, and the margin between buyers ami sellers was narrowed to 10/ or less for three of tlie 4 per cent bond issues following sellers concessions. . Auckland Harbour Board debentures were again freely quoted by holders. Little Activity at Noon. Only three sales "were recorded at noon, and the bidding showed few changes in values. Sellers of Commercial Banks reduced their limits a penny, and buyers of iNew Zealand Banks moved up 3d. Offers were also advanced a penny for the D Mortgage 5 Offers for P. and 0. scrip dropped back 6d, and holders withdrew from tlie market. Bycroft's were still in demand at £2 7/6, after a transfer at recent values. Northern Roller Mills have attracted more attention, and latest buyers moved up to £1 14/, while sellers are 4/ above. Holders of Talisman Dubbo shares came in at 15/6, this being the only interesting feature of the mining section. A drop of 2/6 since last week was recorded in Government stock.
