Dr. T. H. Pettit arrived from Wellington by tha express yesterday morning. Ur. W. P. Endean, M.P. for Parnell, left for Wellington last evening. Mr. W. W. Meek returned from Wellington by the Limited this morning. Mr. A. S. Richards, M.P. for Roskill, returned from Wellington yesterday morning. Mr. W. M. Barr has been appointed deputy of the Public Trustee as from June 26. Senor Simon Quiros v Qniros has been recognised as honorary consul of Panama in Auckland. Mr. 13. Caradus and Mr. J. B. Mawson, inspectors of secondary schools, are at the Station Hotel. Mr. J. X. Massey, M.P. for Franklin, arrived from Wellington by the express yesterday morning. Mr. M. J. Savage, M.P. for Auckland West, arrived from Welliniton by the express yesterday morning. Mr. C. B. V. Wheeler, general traffic manager of the Union Steam Ship Company, left for Sydney by the Makura from Wellington on Friday. Mr. G. M. Warren, joint passenger manager of the Cunard Line at Liverpool, left Wellington for Sydney by the Makura after a tour of New Zealand. The Hon. C. J. Carrington, M.L.C., the Hon. A. Burns, M.L.C., and the Hon. Eliot Davis, M.L.C., returned from Wellington by the express yesterday morning. ' Mr. C. H. Backhouse, general manager of the National Dairy Association, returned from England by the lonic, which arrived at Wellington from London last Friday. Lieut.-Colonel C. K. Spragg, of Auckland, has been promoted to the rank of colonel, and appointed to the command of the Ist New Zealand Mounted Rifles Brigade, succeeding Colonel M. Aldred, who has been transferred to the Reserve of Officers. Professor C. E. Weatherburn, M.A., D.Sc., formerly of Canterbury University College, and now of the University of West Australia, has been awaj-ded the 1934 Hector medal and prize by the Royal Society of New Zealand for outstanding original work in mathematics. Mr. E. V. Reid, deputy chairman and member of the board of directors of Dalgety and Co., Ltd., has resigned as from June 30, according to cabled advice received from the head office of the firm in London. Mr. Keid was formerly for many years general manager of the company.
