BOXING.
AUCKLAND AMATEURS BEATEN BOUTS AT NEW PLYMOUTH. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Sunday. Contests between Auckland and Taranaki boxing teams were held last night, K. Keed (Taranaki), 10.7, won on points from J. Johnston (Auckland), 10.7, after a good hard bout. J. Jarvis (Taranaki), 8.13, technically knocked out B. Wilson (Auckland), 9.1, in the third round. G.' Thomas (Taranaki), 9.2, won on points from E. Estall (Auckland), 9.8, after a good fight. It. Knock (Auckland bantam champion), 8.3, retired with a damaged hand at the end of the first round of his bout with V. Gordon (Taranaki champion). Gordon overshadowed his man early and dropped him for nine. McKAY-HUGHES CONTEST. Displaying an eagerness, exceptional even among great fighters, to fight toe to toe in every minute of the contest, Johnny McKay, the Gisborne light-weight, won the hearts of fight lovers when he made his first appearance here early in June and with Stoker Holland provided one of the most thrilling bouts seen in Auckland for many years. To-night, at the Town Hall, McKay will make his second local appearance, this time opposed to the clever Aucklander, Archie Hughes, and in the ten rounds of the contest patrons should again experience the thrills of the previous bout. Hughes was in great fighting form when he made his last appearance in the local ring, drawing with Fitzgerald, and with opposition from such an aggressive fighter as McKay should again reproduce that form. Both men have concluded training in the pink of condition, and there should be thrills throughout the bout. Both have a lot to lose and much to gain, and neither will spare effort in making sure of the decision, if that is possible, by the short route. The professional bout will be preceded by a number of first-class prelininary contests, including a special nglit between Billy McKay amateur flyweight champion of New Zealand, and Percy Kelly, the Auckland bantam-weight.
