SOUND SLEEP AT NIGHT.

Blessed are those who are- able to sleep soundly every night! Unless one is an habitual bad' sleeper, or until, for some reason or other, sleep forsakes one, one docs not realise what an inestimable blessing deep, refreshing sleep is. Sleeping badly takes many forms: there is the difficulty in getting to sleep when ono goes to bed, the early waking and the inability to fall asleep again, the sleep that is so light that it is disturbed at the slightest sound, the sleep that is interrupted by horrible dreams, the rapid falling asleep directly one gets into bod, followed about half an hour later by a sudden waking up and a feeling that sleep lias fled for many hours. Many people suffer from one or other of these forms of insomnia. Worry is the chief cause of poor sleep; another is indigestion. Too little supper is just as likely to cause one to sleep badly as too much supper. If one has enough self-control to banish all worrying thoughts the moment one gets into beef, then sleep will probably come quickly; but if one is over-tired, suffering from stress and strain, with frayed nerves and an anxious heart, then away sleep will fly. There arc ways in which sleep can be wooed. A hot bath at night, a nourishing but light supper followed by a walk, an hour or two of cheerful company and relaxation before bedtime, will often help to induce refreshing sleep; so will a hot drink at bedtime. A cup of hot milk sipped slowly last thing at night gives one nourishment during tho night; or thoio are many excellent patent foods obtainable.
