Young Rodney Unplaced in Opening Event.

The programme opened with frhc Royal Handicap, all the acceptors going to the post, and Young Rodney ( £625) and Gala Day ( £329) were best backed, tho winner, Nelson Pirate, being entrusted with £198. Audo Patch tangled at the start, and Singing Bird led along the back from Grand Triumph, Waikato Prince and Young Rodney. Passing the stand Singing Bird was followed by Grand Triumph and Waikato Prince with Young Rodney, Nelson Pirate, Gala Day, Gold Realm and Manna's Son. Nelson Pirate and Singing Bird were on terms crossing the top, the pair being attended by Gala Day and Young Rodney, who was breaking, with Waikato Prince and Grand Triumph next. Entering the straight Singing Bird and Nelson Pirate were still on terms, with Gala Day and Young Rodney handy about twelve lengths ahead of Grand Triumph and Waikato Prince. In a good finish Nelson Pirate got the verdict by half a head from Gala Day, with Manna's Son five lengths away. Autumn Lu was fourth; then came Singing Bird, who eased up to a walk, with Grand Triumph, Waikato Prince and Young Rodney next. Defeat of Favourite. Home Brew was the only defection in the Manukau Handicap, in which Aircraft '(£540), Kewpie's Bond (£378), and Nelson Luvan ( £353) carried the bulk of the money. Anthony's Gift stood on the mark and took no part in the,race, while Star Pronto lost a lot of ground. Lucky Love bad charge along the back from Grey Mist and Nel,son Luvan, who were on terms, with Rayon D'Or and Aircraft a dozeu lengths away. Passing the. stands, Grey Mist, who was very wide out,- led from Rayon D'Or and Lucky Love, who were abreast, followed by Nelson Luvan, Aircraft, and Gold Dredge. Nelson Luvan went up fast along the back and led across the top from Lucky Love, Aircraft, Rayon D'Or, Gold Dredge, and Grey.Mist, with ■ 'Kewpie's Bond next. Lucky Love headed Nelson Luvan round the home turn, with Aircraft handy, alnd then came Rayon D'Or and Gold Dredge. Lucky Love drew out-in the run to the post and won easily by two lengths-and a half from Nelson Luvan, who heat Aircraft by three lengths. Gold Dredge, Rayon D'Or, Kewpie's Bond, and Grey Mist were next. ; C. F. Mark Memorial. • There were no withdrawals , from the C. F. Mark Memorial, and Tempest (£748) and Willie Derby-Lady Coronado bracket (£361) were in most demand. When they were let go, Lady Coronado, Tempest and Smooger were quickest to begin, and passing the stand Lady Coronado was leading Willie Derby, Tempest, Smooger and Peter Pirate, -with Auto Machine about a dozen lengths away. Peter Pirate went up fast entering the straight and joined Lady Coronado in the lead passing the stand the i second time, with Willie Derby and Tempest together, next, followed by Smooger and Auto Machine. Peter Pirate took charge along the back from Tempest and Willie- Derby, then came Lady j Coronado and Smooger. Willie Derby moved up crossing, the top, and was just behind Peter Pirate entering the straight, with N Tempest on the inside next, followed by Smooger and Lady Coronado. Tempest challenged Willie Derby over the final stages, but failed to reach him by a long neck, with Peter Pirate two lengths and a half further back. Smooger, Lady Coronado and Auto Machine were next. Outsider Scores in Members'. The six acceptors went to. the post in. the Members' Handicap and Bessie Parrish (£458) and Roi Grande (£391) had most friends, while Moko Girl, the ■winner, carried £162. ; Eoi Grande tangled at the start, losing a lot of ground, and Billy Carbine and Moko Girl led along the back about 12 lengths clear of Mr. Penalty, Roi Grande, Bessie Parrish and- Explosion. Passing the stand Billy Carbine and Moko Girl were still on terms ten lengths ahead of Roi Gjrandc, Mr. Penalty ana Bessie Parrjsh, with Explosion last. There was little alteration along the "back, where Roi Grande improved his position, and entering the straight Moko Girl, Billy Carbine and Roi Grande . were almost abreast about eight lengths ahead of Bessie Parrish. Moko Girl stayed on solidly over the last furlong to win by ■ a length and a quarter from Billy Carbine, who beat Roi Grande by two lengths. Bessie Parrish, Explosion and , Mr. Penalty were next.
