WOOL SALES

OFFERINGS NEXT WEEK,

CATALOGUES IN LONDON.

(Received 12.30 p.m.) LONDON", June 26. The wool available for the sales commencing on July 3 amounts to 109,000 bales, including new arrivals ot" Australian wool, which total 21,600 bales, and New Zealand 48,000 bales. It is expected that about 99,750 bales will be catalogued. There has been a Tong interval between the last sales and those which commence nest week. At the May series of sales the quantities available amounted to only about cue-halt' of the normal May figures of many recent years. Moreover, despite the small available quantities, a considerable proportion was not offered, and withdrawals were somewhat heavy. The main trouble was caused by the embargo placed on imports by Germany. Probably the sentimental effect of tins was more acute than was justified. Germany will still require wools, and the embargo docs not necessarily mean limitation, so much as a judicial control and regulation of imports. As to the prospects for the July sales, a recent review stated that it was impossible to be assured of any largo offerings of fine wools at that series. Consequently, before September and November brought their full normal supply of Merinos into the London market it was difficult to see anything but a temporary scarcity during the next few months.
