BUSINESS IS QUIET.

LOWER OFFERS FOR STOCKS.

In the general slackness of the investment market the latest feature is a general drop of 5/ in offers for per cent tax free stock. Buyers who had been standing firmly at £6 10/ above par dropped back to £6 5/ this morning for all four •issues. . Bidding continues to "-;o listless, and the tone of banking scrip remains weak. Commercials were quoted this morning at 10/ and 16/2 after business at 16/1, and /New Zealands at £2 8/ and £2 9/. Insurances are slightly better, and New Zealands, after selling 3d higher yesterday •afternoon, were still wanted at £3, with sellers at the new price. Auckland Gas continue to hold their strength. Though more are. available at the price of latest sales, buyers arc only a penny below. Kauri Timber have eased back to within 3d of their level before the recent rise, and sales have been made in the South around the new oricc. ; There is little improvement in the mining section, where brokers do not .appear eager to come together. Noon Call Brighter. ___^ The banking, insurance and mining sections were brighter at the noon call. Sales were finalised, but quotations eased a little. Bidders and holders for Bank of New Zealand D Mortgage are converging. The former advanced 2d, to £1 13/9, while sellers are only Id distant, a concession of 2d. New Zealand Insurance eased after a sale at £2 19/9, which itself evidences a weakening tendency. Bidders are now, £2, 19/6, instead of £3 as this morning, while holders have withdrawn 3d, to £3 0/3;' Waihis are on the upward move again.
