BOXING ON MONDAY.

—' ■•■ • ■ HUGHES TO MEET McKAY. The Auckland Boxing Association's next carnival will be staged at the -Town Hall on Monday evening, when Archie Hughes, of Auckland, will meet Johnny McKay, of Gisborne, in the .professional bout, which will be supported by an exceptional amateur programme. Originally McKay was to have met Hurne, of Wellington, but, this bout had to be cancelled owing to the hitter's light weight, which could not have given him much chance against a strong and rugged boxer of the type of McKay. At short notice the association communicated with Clarric Rayner, the New Zealand featherweight champion, but he was not available, and Archie Hughes was offered the opportunity of meeting McKay. The Aucklander, who has been in strict training since he successfully fought Jack Fitzgerald, has been very keen on meeting McKay, who is the next in line for a shot at the New Zealand title, and if he can defeat the Gisborne cyclone Hughes will bo the principal contender for the title. Hughes needs no introduction to the Auckland boxing public, while McKay made a great number of friends when he fought Holland here three weeks ago. It should provide such another fight as was seen on that occasion. A first-class amateur programme has been arranged, including a special contest between Billy McKay, New Zealand amateur fly-weight champion, and Percy Kelly, the clever local bantam-weight, while the other bouts will be between C. G. Brown and R. B. Martin, middleweights; A. Bargens and R. Knock, flyweights; A. Burgess and R. Knock, fly-light-weights.
