POLICE INQUIRY.

ALLEGATIONS MADE.

HEARING IN CAMERA,

Presided over by Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M., with a police official and a member of the public as assistants, an inquiry under section 4 of the Police Force Amendment Act, 1924, is at present being held at the Magistrate's Court. The inquiry concerns alleged breaches of the regulations said to have been made by certain commissioned police officers and their subordinates. The allegations are made by Mr. Arthur Ernest Warde. Many police officers have been subpoenaed, and it is expected that the inquiry, which opened this morning, will last two or three days. The inquiry is being held in.camera, the Act stating that no barrister or solicitor shall attend without the permission of the Minister of Justice, and that the Press and public shall be excluded. When the inquiry is completed, the, magistrate will report to the Minister of Justice.
