'COURAGE—AND SKILL'
TRIBUTE FROM MR. ULM. FLIGHT THROUGH MONSOON. "Her feat in flying from England to Australia in fourteen and a half days is something that displays not only a really extraordinary amount of courage and grit, but skill as wp'l," said Mr. C. T. P. Ulm, who arrived hy the Aorangi from Sydney this morning, when referring to Miss Batten's exploit. "Few people seem to realise," he said, "that she came through the Malay Peninsula at the beginning of the monsoon season. Only those who have been through these monsooiial rains and storms can realise the difficulties of Hying a light 'plane solo through such weather. It was marvellous that she got through.
"The flying people of Australia who have had the opportunity of meeting Miss Batten are impressed with the good show she made, and with the girl herself. She has proved her capability and the whole community on the other side of the Tasinan have the highest admiration for her. It is with great pleasure that I pay my personal tribute. After what she has been through Hiss Batten deserves every honour the Dominion can give her."
