ANNIVERSARY EVENING.

LYCEUM CLUB FUNCTION. To celebrate the fifteenth anniversary of tho Auckland Lyceum Club a gathering, at which only members attended, was held in the club lounge last evening. In spite of the weather during the day, there was a large attendance to the birthday evening, which had been eagerly looked forward to, and the function was in every way an enjoyable one. The president, Mrs. W. IT. Parkes, extended a welcome to all, especially to the new members, of whom there were many. After a programme of musical and dramatic items supper was served, and a feature was a large and beauti-fully-iced birthday cake, decorated with 15 candles, which was cut by Mrs. Parkes. Tho programme included a one-act play, written by Mrs. Latter, a member of tho club, and produced by Mrs. Varley Hudson. The play was a fantasy in which characters from each period appeared, and a tragedy of the Georgian period was presented. . The play was given in costume, the frocking of the Victorian and Georgian periods being correct in detail, as well as picturesque. Tho parts were cleverly taken bv Miss Joan Hudson, Miss Veronica Walsh, Miss Joyce Croshcr, Mr. A. D. Bathurst and Mr. E. E. Sadd. Tho programme also included the songs "Eleanore" and "We Sway Aloii" the Ridges" (Mailinson), by Mr. Robert Simmers; "Silent Noon'' (Vaughan Williams) and "Sleep Song" (La For-'e) by Mrs. J. F. Ewen; "Sequedilla," from "Carmen" (Bizet), and a ballad entitled "Full Moon," by Mrs. Harold Owcrs. In addition, there were recitations, "The Old Grey Squirrel" (Margaret Noves) and "The Way Through tho Woods" (Kipling), by Mr. Dennis Johns, and humorous Scottish songs by Mr. Stark. Miss Tlieo Halpin was the accompanist. The programme was arranged by Miss Kent.
