RUGBY FOOTBALL OPINIONS. A correspondent, " Eden Park," writes as follows:— "The public expects accurate accounts of the various sporting activities in which they ur> interested. Insofar as Kugby football is concerned they arc certainly not getting unbiased accounts. One reading the ' Star's ' account of the match against Waikato would imagine that Auckland had in its ranks a super three-quarter. Xow, those who saw tho match know that only one Auckland back played a crackerjack game, and that was Corner, who certainly has seldom played better. The three-quarter mentioned admittedly scored three tries, but each of the three wad made for him. Never once during the two spells did he feed his waiting wings, but persisted, before drawing his man and then unloading to hie wings, in kicking, much of which was misdirected. Heazlewood is referred to in terms which would Imply that he might as well not have been on the field, whereas, although certainly not as brilliant as he usually is, he did nothing wrong. No reference is made to the selfish action of the Auckland skipper in ignoring the best place-kick in the team, and taking the bulk of the kicks himself, with the result —eight shots nt goal, one conversion'. It is remarkable that 50 per cent of the A and B reps, come from the bottom team, and a side one remove from that lowly position. All tho public expects from the Press is accurate accounts of the games and players concerned, and not praise where it is unmerited." [The writer fails to distinguish between fact and opinion. The reporter gives tlie facts of the ecoree and scorers plus his opinions of the play; "Eden Park" pivee his opinions of the play. That they do not agree does not mean that the report is biased any more than it would have been had the opinions piven been those of "Eden rark."—Snprte EdJ
