ROAD TO MILFORD.
CABINET COMMENDED. SOUTHLAND APPRECIATION. COMPLETION IN THREE YEARS (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, Wednesday. Approval of the Cabinet's decision to push on the Eglingtbn Valley Road to Milford Sound was generally expressed in Invereargiil to-day. "For many years Southland has been more or less neglected as a tourist resort, and the extension of the road to
MilforVl should bring a largo influx of visitors to our district," remarked the president of the Invereargiil Chamber of Commerce, Sir. C. B. Tapley. "It gives us the hope that it may be the. means of re-eetffbliallilin; a permanent Bluff-Mel bourne service, which means so much to Southland. When Milford is the terminal point, we may justly claim to possess tlie most ruprgedly beautiful motor run in the world." Mr. W. Hinchey, president of the Southland League, which hae long regarded the Eglington-Milford road as a national undertaking of importance, paid a tribute to the Hon. A. Hamilton's activities in connection with the completion of the route. In order to complete the undertaking in under tTiree rears, it is the intention of the- Public Works Department to engage a. further 100 men on the road. These men, according to the assistant engineer at Invereargiil, will in all probability be recruited from Southland.
