TRIALS AT ELLERSLIE.

PREPARING FOR WAIPA. GOOD EFFORT BY VEHSANT. FIRST LAP ALSO GOES WELL. After a very heavy frost overnight, the weather was perfect for training operations at Ellerslie this morning, when several horses with engagements at the Waipa meeting at Te Awamutu on Saturday were given their final gallops- No. 1 grass track was available, the going after the recent rain being holding. No. I Grass. Horowhenua and Wee Muek were sprinted half a mile, and after running their first furlong in 13s, they completed the task in 535. There was little between them at the finish. Versant, Karangapai and Moonflect were associated over six furlongs. When they Jumped off Versant ran on to the sand track, which is alongside, and went for fully three furlongs before getting back on the grass.
