LABOURER'S DEATH.
VERDICT AT INQUEST. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) OPOTIKI, this day. An inquest was held to-day, before Mr. F. J. Short, district coroner, on the death of Taka More, aged 33, a labourer and married -with seven children. Mr. A. R. Alder gave evidence that deceased was one of a gang working on the Ruatauna Road for the past fortnight. He was picking spoil for filling from the face of a 12ft bank, which came down without warning. Deceased was buried to the waist. He was extricated immediately, and complained of injury to his stomach. Mr. W. Upton, county engineer, said in his opinion the bank cracked, due to the wattle roots growing there. Dr. H. M. Budd said he removed the injured man to the hospital, where he died on Saturday night. He was suffering from. a fractured right thigh, fractured pelvis and severe internal injuries.. Death was due to heart failure following shock and toxemia due in internal injuries. The coroner's verdict was in accordance with the medical evidence.
