ROUGH AT SEA.
STEAMER RUAHINE HOVE-TO. GALE OUTSIDE THE GULF. Advicjß that the Ruahine was hove-to yesterday afternoon was the first indication received in Auckland that a strong wind was blowing outside Hauraki Gulf. I About 1 p.m. to-day the liner resumed! her voyage from London to Auckland, ! and is now expected to arrive in the channel at 11 o'clock to-night. She will berth to-morrow morning about 7.30. j About 5 o'clock last evening the New Zealand Shipping Company received a radio that the Ruahino was holding her noso into a south-easterly of gale force, SO miles east of Cuvier light, or about 120 miles from Auckland. The steamer Antonio is also being delayed by the weather, and is now expected to-morrow morning from Ocean Island, instead of at noon to-day. I The weather in Auckland is cold, but the south-easterly breeze is only light, j giving no indication of the stormy conditions a hundred miles away. The report from Tiritiri Island states that conditions offshore appear rough, although no rain is reported. The steamer Monowai, j which left for Wellington this afternoon, may encounter heavy seas if the wind prevails, but the fact that the Ruahino was able to resume her trip suggests that the weather has abated somewhat.
