Playing in the county cricket for Notts against Sussex, at Horsham, Harold Larwood, with a great burst of speed, took five wickets at one stage for 10 runs. Ernest Tyklesley (Lancashire) and J. O'Connor (Essex) have passed 1000 runs for the season. W. E. Merritt, the New Zealander, secured 24 runs, and took four wickets in the Lancashire League. Results of county engagements: — Yorkshire: First innings, 174 (Peebles five for 08); second, 220 (A. A. Mitchell 71; Peebles seven for 85). Middlesex: First innings, 344 (Hulme 116); second, eight for 51 (Bowes six for 17). Middlesex won by two wickets. Essex: First innings, 265 (O'Connor 143); second, 286. Surrey: First innings, 286 (Barling 96 not out); second, 227. Essex won by 38 runs. Hampshire: First innings, 481 (Arnold 144, Mead 138). Derby: First innings, 108; follow-on, 291 (Alderman 124, Townsend 86). Hampshire won by an innings and 82 runs. Sussex: First innings, 312 (J. Parks Larwood five for 66, Voce four for 69); second, four for 180. Notts: First innings, 331 (Keeton 99, Harris 107). Notts won on the first innings. Warwick: First innings, 435 (Bates 72). Kent: First innings, 140 (Mayer five for 57); follow-on, 109 (Paine six for 39). Warwick won by an innings and 126 runs. Gloucester: First innings, 407 (Barnett 194); second, none for 32.
