It was decided to reply in terms of the engineer's report. Bridge or Tunnel? —A letter was received from Mr. R. D. Stewart asking if the board would be prepared to assist him in his advocacy of a tunnel under the harbour in preference to a harbour bridge. The chairman quoted the report of the Harbour Bridge Commission, that a tunnel would be far more costly than a bridge, and on his motion it was decided to take no action. Water Charges. —, The Devonport Borough Council, in reply to a suggestion from the board that the rate for supplying ships in stream with water should be reduced, stated that the council could not see its way to make the reduction asked for.
