WOMEN'S INSTITUTES.
MAROMAKU. The usual monthly meeting was held in the schoolroom on Saturday last, the president, Mrs. D. Ross, presiding. Members decided to enter for the drama festival, arranged by the Whangarei group, and also decided to hold a spring flower show and sale of work in November. A written competition was won by Mrs. Woodcock, with Mrs. Callaghan second. Mrs. Atkins produced tho best pot of jelly, Mrs. Callaghan and Mrs. Webb, equal, second. The roll call, "For the most useful thing in my kitchen," was well responded to, and brought forth many articles. NGAMATEA. There was a good attendance at tho June meeting of tho Ngamatea Institute. Mrs. Ferry presided. Final arrangements were m.ido for tho plain and fancy masked ball which is being organised by Karioi and Ngamatea members, to be held in the Karioi Hall shortly. The roll call was the birthplace of each member, and the demonstration basket work. The competition, the best vase of foliage when flowers are scarce, was won by Mrs. Blair, Mrs. Ferry second, and Mrs. 0. Pertain and Mrs. G. Greaves tieing for third place. Miss Kennedy was the judge. Afternoon tea was later served by Mrs. Blair and Mrs. G. Greaves. GLEN EDEN. The monthly meeting of the Glen Eden Women's Institute was held in the Anglican Hall on Monday. Mrs. Hawkey presided, and there was a failattendance of members. A competition, guessing the names of New Zealand towns, was won by Mrs. Elshaw. Judging of the slippers was done by Mrs. Kirkbride, and resulted in Mrs. Brown being first and Mrs. Hill second. The flower competition was won by Mrs. Brown, Mrs. Yates being second. Tea and community singing brought the evening to a close, and the hostesses were Mrs. Waldron, Mrs. Bclshan and Mrs. Dale. EAST TAMAKI. Mrs. C. Allen presided over a large attendance at the monthly meeting of tho East Tamaki Women's Institute. The competition, best article made from flour bag, was won by Mrs. Hill, with Mrs. W. Ormiston second. The roll call was "Place of Birth and Suggestion." An interesting demonstration was given by Mr. Wall on how to cure all kinds of skins. The hostesses were Mesdamcs New, Upfold and Fergusson. Preparations were made for the institute birthday party. WAITERIMU—MATAHURU. The monthly meeting held recently was well attended. Mesdamcs Howard and McGaughran demonstrated rug making from raw sheep's wool, toys from rabbit skins and pictures from coloured tinsel paper. A violet competition was won by Mi's. J. Grundy. The hostesses for the day were Mrs. G. Cheyne and Miss E. Cheync.
