UNNAMED CHANNELS.
APPROACHES TO AUCKLAND. BOARD TO CONSIDER NAMING. For the purpose of identification and to benefit navigation generally, Mr. Ernest Davis, at yesterday's meeting of the Auckland Harbour Board, moved that the board in committee .consider requesting tho Marine Department to name the channels and passages in the approach to the Hauraki Gulf, and to have tho names entered on tho charts. Ml*. Davis said tho charts were antiquated, and nowhere in the British Empire would be found so many channels and passages unnamed as in tho Hauraki Gulf. The passages and channels mentioned by Mr. Davis were: Between Moro Tiri Islands (Hen and Chickens) and Moko Hinau Island; between Rodney Point and I/ittlo Barrier Island; between Great Barrier Island and Moko Hinau and Littlo Barrier Island; between the east side of Waiheke Island and Coromandel; between Tiritiri and the Noisies; between Waiheke Island and Ahaaha Island; and between Rakino Island and Motutapu Island. The matter was referred to the board in committee, and tho harbour-master, Captain H. H. Sergeant, is to offer a list of suitable names for the board to suggest to the Marine Department.
