LEAGUE FOOTBALL.

CONTROL BOARD AFFAIRS.

QUERY ON DROPOUT RULE.

TUAKAU IN REP. CURTAIN-RAISER.

Arising out of a letter from the Auckland Rugby League Referees' Association the Board of Control, with Mr. G. Grey Campbell presiding, endorsed a recommendation urging that when the ball was dropped out after a force-down, that the attacking side should stand five yards from the goal-line. In support the association drew attention to the fact that the goal-line was considered in goal and therefore while players were permitted to stand on that line, they were definitely standing in goal. •'

, T . h = representatives of the board stated that the rule adppted by the council waa strictly in accordance with the English rule-book, although the Australian interpretation allowed the five yards. It was stated that several Southern Leagues were already playing the five yards interpretation.

It was decided to seek the permission of the council to cable to the English Rugby League Council asking whether the five yards interpretation was the correct method after a force-down dropout. Mr. Grey Campbell was congratulated on his appointment to the Auckland University College Council. The Ponsonby-Devonport match was given pride of place for next Saturday, with Marists-Richmond as curtain-raiser. The chairman said all the teams were doing well now and he desired to congratulate the clubs which played on Monday. Mr. Wilkie reported that the exhibition match between the Lower Waikato representatives (Tuakau) and Mangere on the King's Birthday at Tuakau was a fine contest and the players of the new subleague were unlucky to be defeated by 12—13. He warmly recommended that the Tuakau district team be early played at C'arlaw Park in the return fixture. The chairman, upon hearing other favourable comment, moved, and it was carried that the teams meet in the curtain-raiser to the Taranaki-Auckland match on June 30.

As the result of a club report on gashes received by players owing to faulty boot sprigs, it was decided to ask referees to make regular inspection of players' boots. The Friendly Road radio station officially advised that it had received a permit from the Post and Telegraph Department to transfer its Saturday morning time to the afternoon and to embrace Carlaw Park main match, commencing June 2. The station was thanked for its interest and service.

The Marist 01d_ Boys' Club submitted its new list of officers, with H. C. Brisbane as club captain.

Lawless (Richmond) and Kelsall (Newton) were stood down for one playing Saturday for misconduct on the field. The players stated that they had no intention when leaving the ground to fight, Lawless merely pointing towards the side-door entrance of the grandstand as the best way of avoiding the crowd. Registrations: A. Fraser (Otaua, Waiuku) and C. Lawson (Sandringhani) to Newton; A. E. Olsson (City) and J. Saunders (with clearance from Northland) to City Rovers. ( Reinstatement: C. J. Gollan.
