THE SAWDERS CUP.

DISPUTE WITH SOUTH. EFFORTS FOR AGREEMENT. A movement by. the Wellington Yacht and Motor Boat Association towards a settlement of the trouble between Auckland and the Southern associations over the Sanders Cup is deserving of encouragement. The history of the break-away of Auckland is fresh in the minds of all who take an interest in this much maligned class and centres round the efforts of the Auckland Association to repair a fault in the original plan and then to supply steel master moulds to enable the boats to be correctly measured. This work was carried out by Auckland, but not to the satisfaction of our Southern friends, who showed their displeasure with the new plan by declining to pay their full proportion of the cost of redrawing and making the steel master moulds on the ground that they would never use them in their present condition. There were other factors which really jhad more to do with the break-away than this and the result was the formation of a new Dominion Council which Auckland declined to join.; No doubt if the Wellington Association succeeds in getting the other associations to ngree to pay their share of the cost of the new plans and moulds it may be a decided step in the direction of inducing Auckland to reconsider its present attitude. The cause or the trouble has been aggravated already by needless controversy. ' Any genuine effort by the Southern associations is worthy of a fair and free discussion by each individual club which contributes men and money for the conduct of the sport, with the idea of finding any possible means by which Auckland would once more take its place in the annual contests for this class. The 3035 contest will bo held at Half Moon Bay, Stewart Island, or some water near by. "This is a long way for Auckland to send a boat, but the old bugbear of expense need not cloud the issue, us there are yachtsmen only too willing to go down at their own expense if given the opportunity, It is Speedwell's earnest hope that the present situation will be so handled by those who have set the ball rolling that it will lead to the position being made clear for Auckland to «omc into the contest again.
