MATRON FAREWELLED.

At the usual meeting of the infirmary committee of the Hospital Board, opportunity was taken to take final leave of Miss Rudd, the retiring matron, and to formally welcome Miss Wade, who has been appointed to v take her place. Mr. W. Wallace, chairman of the board, paid a warm tribute to the work Miss Rudd had done during the eleven years she had been in charge of the nursing staff. It was eleven years to the very day since Miss Rudd had taken up her duties at the infirmary and at that time there were only eight female nurses on the staff most of the nursing being done by men. Now the whole system of nursing was changed and there were twelve sisters and fifty-one nurses on the staff. The change had been wonderful and no eick aged person wanted to be nursed by a male nurse. The feminine touch was necessary at the sicks beds. He had great pleasure on behalf of the nurses and the committee, in presenting to Miss Rudd a framed photograph of the members of the nursing staff as it existed to-day. He wished Miss Rudd all happiness and length of days in her retirement, sentiments which were endorsed by the members of the committee. He felt sure that Miss Wade would follow the high ideals set by the first matron (Miss Rudd) in her work at the home, where there were at present 439' residents. Mr. G. T. Faryin, chairman of the committee, also added his tribute of praise to Miss Rudd'fl work, and extended a warm welcome to Miss W n(le - After afternoon tea was served, Miss Rudd was asked to plant a pnriri tree in the front of the gronude, Messrs. Wallace and Howitt are the only two members who have been on the infirmary committee the whole time Miss Rudd had been matron.
