ROYAL VISIT.
CRUISERS AS ESCORT. DUNEDIN AND DIOMEDE. MOVEMENTS ANNOUNCED. (By Telegraph.—rress Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The two cruisers H.M.s. Dunedin and H.M.s. Diomede will represent New Zealand at the Melbourne Centenary celebrations in October. The cruisers will leave next month on annual Pacific Island cruises, returning to Auckland early in August. Both will leave New Zealand for Hobart early in October and between Hobart and Melbourne the cruisers will meet ships of the Royal Australian Navy, H.M.A.s. Canberra, H.M.A.s. Australia, and a destroyer flotilla will carry out tactical and strategical exercises.
The New Zealand cruisers will then act with the Australian warships in providing a Royal escort for H.M.5.., Sussex, with the Duke of Gloucester on board on her arrival at Melbourne. They will arrive back at Auckland about the middle of November in time to give special leave to some of their ratings. It is expected they will then leave for Wellington to provide a Royal escort for the Duke of Gloucester when he arrives from Australia toward the middle of December.
