ELLERSLIE. Draft estimates, based on a rate o£ lOd in the £ on a total unimproved value of £180,000, were submitted to last night's meeting of the Ellerslie Town Board. The treasurer reported-that the rate represented an increase of 2d in the general and special rate compared with last year. The increase had resulted from the > recent revaluation, which had brought the unimproved value down to £180,000 from £224,801. Consideration was deferred until a full board meeting after the byelection on June 7. The clerk reported that a tender had been accepted by the Main Highways Board for the resurfacing of the Ellerslie main highway over a distance of twelve chains. MOUNT ALBERT. The ordinary meeting of the Mount Albert Borough Council was_ held last evening, the Mayor, Mr. R. Ferner, presiding. . Loan Conversion Scheme.—Advice was received from the Loans Board in Wellington that the scheme organised by the Mayor and the town clerk, Mr. T. R. Coiigalton (previously published), had been approved. Intimation was also given of the necessary steps to be taken by the council to put the scheme into operation. I The Mayor said that since the date of the letter the Order-in-Couneil had been signed. The matter was referred to the finance committee, with power to act in any particulars where action could be taken immediately. Several speakers mentioned that Mount Albert was unique in having the benefit of a satisfactory scheme of con vers t ion developed within the borough, without the aid of the costly outside professional help that most bodies had had to call in. The total amount to be converted is £674,000, redemption being over a period of 34 years. Football Collections. —Permission was granted to the Eden Rugby Football Club to take up a collection on Gribble-Hirst Park on certain Saturday afternoons in an effort to aid the club's finances, and to maintain its property in the borough. A stipulation was made to the effect that the club must notify the town clerk on each occasion. Rate Collections. —The finance and legal committee reported that payment of arrears in rates for the period April 1-May 10 had totalled £2700, compared with £1812 for the same period last year. m I
