AFFAIRS OF REFEREES.
At the meeting of the Auckland Rugby League Referees' Association last evening, Mr. L. E. Bull presiding, a reported complaint about the condition of the Manukau ground was referred to the control board. A lack of suitable accommodation for referees at Western Springs ground was also reported. . Mr. S. Billman was appointed to lecturc to the Glenora Club at Glen Eden and Mr. Bull to Newton Rangers at Carlaw Park this week. The chairman said that in connection with requests for advice on points of play, it was desirable for the association s referees to go to the headquarters of clubs concerned. . Mr. T. Skinner, of Grey Lynn, having passed the necessary examinations, was balloted for and accepted as a member. Mr. J. H. Hawkes, of rarnell, was nominated for membership. The executive reported that the grading and appointments committee was yet dissatisfied with the enforcement ot the play the ball rule, which was easily applied. As tliis inadequacy and late tackling were spoiling play the committee intended to take drastic action. Tho official critic gave a remarkably interesting talk on the scrum rule.
