LOCAL BODY-BUILDING
The first omnibus chassis to be built in New Zealand has just been eotiipU-ted at the workshop of the Passenger Transport Company at Otahuhu, after a little over six weeks' work. The steering gear, axles, gear box, 115 horse-powfr. motor and the side members of the chassis were imported from England, but the remainder of the chassis was built either of imported accessories bought here, such its the wheels and tyres, or of locally manufactured parts. These latter included the cross members of the chassis, brake gear, radiator, mudguards, bonnet and springs, all of which were made in Auckland. The body, designed to accommodate 30 passengers seated, is also being built at the company's workshop, and the completed vehicle will be.ready for the road in about five weeks' time.
