Mr. D. Ardell, of the Department ot Internal Affairs, is at the. Grand Hotel. Mr C E Bellringer has been re-elected chairman of the New Plymouth Harbour Board. Squadron-Leader T. M. Wilkes Director of Air Services, is at the Grand Hotel. Mr H G. R. Mason, M.P. for Auckland Suburbs, left for Wellington by the Limited last evening. Mr. C. T. P: Ulm and Mr. G. V. Allen, of the crew of the monoplane Faith in Australia, are at the Grand Hotel. Dr W. Gilmour, pathologist at the I Auckland Hospital, returned from Wexlington by the express this morning. Mr. W. A. Veitch, M.P. for Wanganui, who has been visiting Auckland, will return to Wanganui by the express thw evening. Mr. F. G. Huse and Mr. C. C. Howard, audit inspectors for New Zealand Kailways, arrived from the South on Saturday. ' . Mr. V. N. Hubble is assisting in the conduct of the Crown's case at the_ Company Promotion Commission, which is sitting in Auckland. Mr. J. Bertram, New Zealand Rhodes Scholar, has been awarded the Charles Oldham Scholarship, and is now studying at New College, Oxford. Professor P. W. Burbidge, in charge of the Department of Physics at Auckland University College, returned from Wellington by the express this morning. Dr. V. A. D. Blackburn, of Gisborne, has joined the R.A.F. Medical Service, with the rank of flying-officer, and is stationed at -Halton for a course in tropical diseases. I Mr. Andrew Gray, of Auckland, has been re-elected a director of the Dental and Medical Supply Company, Ltd. Mr. Gray has been on the directorate of tb« company ever since its inception 38 years ago. , ■•

Mr. Johan Wielart, former conductor of the Auckland Orchestral Society, has been chosen to conduct the performance of "Orpheus," which is to be presented this year at the Koyal Albert Hall, London. Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Virtue, of Auckland, who have been touring the British Isles, are visiting the Continent this month and intend to spend three months in Canada and U.S.A. before returning to New Zealand. Lieutenant R. E. Washbourn, of H.M.s. Diomede, has been awarded the Ronaltl Megaw Memorial Prize for 1932-33, offered each year to the sub-lieutenant obtaining highest place in the examinations for lieutenant. Mr. W. J. Poison, M.P., Dominion president of the Farmers' Union, who has been suffering from influenza since the beginning of this month, has almost completely recovered. He is at the Roya! Oak Hotel, Wellington. Flying-Officer H. D. Gilman, formerly of Auckland, who is with No. 600 (city of London) Bombing Squadron, Hendon, has entered for the London-Melbourne air race. He was until recently adjutant of the 101 st Bomber Squadron. Mr. • Denis M. Mulgan has been awarded a scholarship in music, to be held at Worcester College, Oxford. Mr. Mulgan, who is the eldest son of Mr. Geoffrey Mulgan, formerly of Auckland and Christchureh, was educated at Charterhouse, and has since been studying at London University. Captain A. Lansley, of the Marine Department, who has been ship's surveyor in Dunedin for three years, is on six months' leave of absence and left for London with his wife and family by the Rotorua from Wellington on Saturday. Captain Lansley was stationed at Auckland for five years prior to his transfer to Dunedin.

Dr. Alfred A. Levi has been appointed Halley Stewart Research Fellow at the Cancer Hospital, Fulham Road, London. Dr. Levi was educated at Otago University and holds the degrees of J3.Se., M.Sc. (New Zealand) and Ph.D. (London University). He recently held the John Esmond Research Fellowship at Otago University; and has from time to time issued a number of important publications.
