WHANGAREI SHOW.
MOST SUCCESSFUL FIXTURE. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, this day. A happy blending between town and country, with both sections working as one with a common objective, resulted in the Whangarei Winter Show being one of the most successful held in recent years. The desired end —restoring the exhibition to its proper place of importance in the community—was achieved in a week of many-sided attraction?. The popularity of the show was reflected in the gate takings, which were £270 3/, compared with £252 11/0 last year. On Saturday evening the receipts wore £70. Hundreds watched the tug-of-war finals, which resulted:—Heavy-weight, Wairtia; lightweight, Puma. Ladies: Ptirua. All these teams were captained by Mr. E. D. Finlayson.
