WOMAN SEEKS ARREST TELEPHONE CALL TO POLICE. GAOL TERM ASKED TOR. Dorothy Meyrick, aged 29, the woman who stole three diamond rings of a total j value of £97 10/, from two shops in ' Auckland in September last, and for | that was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence ■within two years, provided she remained in St. Joseph's Home during that period, appeared this morning on the three original charges for sentence. Senior Sergeant Flanagan said Meyrick, who had escaped from the home once or twice since being sent there, escaped again yesterday. At 10 o'clock last night she telephoned the police from a slot 'phone in Epsom and invited them to arrest her. A constable was sent out, and found accused waiting for him. Major Gordon said that everything possible had been done to assist Meyi rick, but she would not help herself and absolutely refused to stay in any home. The magistrate told accused that she had been given a great amount of leniency, and that she evidently wanted to be sent to prison. Meyrick replied that was 60. "Very well," said the magistrate. "If you don't appreciate the leniency shown you ,you will have to go to prison, as you refuse to remain in a home." Meyrick was sentenced to six months' ; imprisonment, to be followed by 18 i months' reformative detention.
