MILK FOR OTAHUHU.
METROPOLITAN COUNCIL
VENDORS SEEK INCLUSION,
The Otahuhu Borough Council on Wednesday received a petition from the milk vendors in the borough seeking the council's support to their request to the Auckland Metropolitan Milk Council for inclusion in their area. The petitioners said that owing to the cut-throat competition the milk business was on an uneconomic basis and was reducing the milk vendors to such a position that in tho near future they would be unable to carry on. ~ The Mayor, Mr. H. T. Clements, said when he heard that this request had been sent to the Milk Council he had immcdiatcly entered a protest on behalf of the Borough Council. He had assumed that the council wished to bo consulted on the matter. The council confirmed the action of the Mayor and congratulated him on his action. ' After some discussion the council agreed to hear a deputation of milk vendors. Mv. Munro, solicitor lor the local Milk Vendors' Association, said there "0 logical reason why the council , nould not support the position as r must realise the remuneration the vendors were getting to-day was trifling and tliey were faced with rum if no assistance was given. After a discussion lasting 1J- ho lll ® the deputation retired following a final exhortation to the council to withdraw their opposition to the local petition now before the Milk Council. Tho council later decided to ask the Milk Council to hold up their protest until the other section of the community had been heard.
