WELLINGTON'S TRADE.
INCREASE IK SHIPPING. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. More than 33 per cent of the total imports and 23 per cent of the total exports of the Dominion passed through the port of Wellington last year. The tonnage of shipping arrivals increased by 4.6 per cent compared with the previous year, and the average net tonnage of the ships showed a relative increase, according to the annual report of the secretary presented to a meeting of the Wellington Harbour Board tonight. The total net tonnage of trading vessels entering port during the year ended September 30 was 3,652,704, an increase of 1 '9,288 tons. The total net tonnage of trading vessels that arrived and departed from and to overseas and coastal norts during the year was 7,087,484/
The total trade of the port remained about the same as for the previous year, the figures being 1,408,192 tons, compared with 1,488,998 tons. Exports continued to increase, but imports showed a further, although small, decline. The net surplus of the board for the year was £0424, compared with £5574 for the previous year.
