GOOD FRIDAY PAY.

RELIEF MEN'S HOLIDAY. (By Telegrapfl. —Press Association.) THAMES, Thursday. A circular from the Unemployment Board was read at the meeting of the Thames Unemployment Committee last evening, detailing the holidays for relief workers.

Mr. Boswell said that Good Friday was a recognised holiday among miners. He asked if the circular meant that they had to work on that day. Mr. Smith: That is the position If they don't work on Good Friday they w il[ not be paid for that day. This also applies to Anzac Day. Mr. Donovan said that last year the committee took up the matter of working on Anzac Day. The Mayor, Mr. S. Ensor: We should take it up this time. Mr. Donovan: You can't compel a man to work on Anzac Day. Mr. Boswell: But you can withhold his pay if he doesn't work. _ After further discussion the Mayor moved, and Mr. Boswell seconded, that the secretary write to the Unemployment Board, stating that it was of the opinion the men should be paid for Good Friday and Anzac Day.

The Unemployment Board announced recently that relief workers, who would be normally employed on Good Friday, Easter Saturday, Easter Monday and Anzac Day, were to be paid as if they worked on those days. It was then made clear that this decision applied to all relief workers, except those cnga o ed under schemes 4A, 48, 4D, gold prospectors under schemes 5 and BA, and schemes 7 and 11. Workers who.would in any case be standing down on the , days mentioned would not be paid.
