ART EXHIBITION.
STUDENTS OF ELAM SCHOOL
OPENING OF DISPLAY,
An exhibition of the work of the students of the Elam School of Art was opened this afternoon at the Art Gallery. The standard this year is unusual!}- high in paintings, pen and wash sketches, drawings, advertising posters and sculpture. A feature of the exhibition is a seulpturo by Noel Ireland, aged 17, who has on exhibition a remarkably fine girl's head modelled from life. The treatment is unusually vigorous and striking for a youth, and the difficulty of the model's unusual type of features has been cleverly overcome. Mr. Bernard Shaw, who was shown the head when he visited the gallery last Sunday, praised its lifelike quality. Another outstanding work by this youth is in a totally different type of subject, showing a beautifully poised body with bold drapery, tli3 latter being portrayed in lifelike manner.
