PATRIOTIC FUNDS.

DETAILS OF DISBURSEMENT. MORE INFORMATION WANTED. Exception was taken by the Auckland Provincial Patriotic and War Relief Association yesterday afternoon to the fact that the Auckland Returned Soldiers' Association had not supplied sufficient iuformation concerning the disbursement of moneys supplied to that body by the National War Funds Council through the claims board of the Patriotic Association for the relief of distress. The absence of detail referred to was in respects of the beading "returns yet to come.";

■ Correspondence passed between the Patriotic Association and tlie Returned Soldiers' Association, and the meeting decided,.on the motion of the president, Sir James Gunson, to refer a communication from the War Funds Council to the claims board. The communication included 'a cheque of £191 to be made available to returned soldiers; and the cheque is to be withheld until the Returned Soldiers' Association satisfies the claims board regarding 'the items in question.

A letter to the Returned Soldiers' Association from the Patriotic Association read, inter alia, "I must draw your attention to the items under 'returns not to hand.' In the previous statement under .this heading, all amount of £45 was shown; in this statement under the same heading there is an item of £28 showings .There is seemingly no account for the previous non-returns, as there is no amount brought forward, and nothing to Indicate that this £28 is not now outstanding in respect of-the last remittance (from the War Council)." It was only right that iji sending the association a further cheque, which was being done conditionally on the understanding that full returns would be made, the Patriotic Association should draw the other association's attention' .to • the, position, added the letter. ]

A copy of the above letter was to be sent to the National War Funds Council. An acknowledgment of a previous cheque for £174 was received from the U.S.A., which said that instructions had been given that in future full particulars of any outstanding returns will be included in their statement.
