STRUCK BY MOTOR VAN

CORONER'S VERDICT. ; DRIVER EATER ARRESTED. "1 am afraid that tlic van was negligently driven,", said the coroner, Mr. W. Ty. McKean, S.M., when inquiring yesterday afternoon into the death of Alexander l'iddell, aged 7,~>. Deceased was knocked down at the corner of Fanshtiwe and Xclson Streets on February 2 by a motor van driven by Mcliael Marinovich, (ish dealer. If he had taken care and looked in the direction in which he was travelling, instead of to the right, the accident would not have occurred. "In these circumstances t cannot say that the driver was not blameworthy." lie returned a verdict that deceased died from pneumonia, consequent oil being kept in bed after the administration of an anaesthetic,'which was necessary, as the deceased had suffered a broken right leg when knocked down by the van, "which," added Mr. McKean, "I am afraid was negligently driven by .Marinovich." Marinovich, aged 20, fish dealer, was arrested last night and charged with negligently driving a motor van, thereby causing the death of Alexander Biddel I. Accused was brought before Mr, W. I\. McKean, S.M., in the Police Court this morning. Tho pAlice, with the consent of Mr. B. Beckerleg, who appeared for Marinovich, obtained a remand until April l(i. Accused was released on bail, in his own recognisance.
