TUBERCULAR CASES.
HOSPITAL ACCOMMODATION.
conference: witii dr. watt
Unanimously, agreeing that improved provision should be made : for _ tuberculosis patients, the Auckland Hospital Board decided on Tuesday to arrange a meeting with the' Director-General of Health, Dr, H. Watt, to discuss the position, 1 arid to appoint a committee consisting of Dr. E. B. Gunson, the Rev. W,. C, Wood and Air. A. L. Spence to prepare a .report. >'•' The chairman, Mr. W. Wallace, said that the board was spending £25,000 a year on the treatment of tuberculosis, having 60 cases at the hospital, 80 at th©;- infirmary and 60 at other sanatoria, apart from those attending the dispensary. As they had no wards at the hospital suitable for the treatment of this disease, conditions were very difficult, and '.were dangerous for the nursing staff. Mr. G. T. Parviii suggested that they should get into touch with other boards in. the province to co-operate in the building of. a sanatorium. Members took strong exception to the placing of »tU,bterculosis cases in wards with other'i.vpatients, and the Rev. W. C; Wood jiiiiTgeeted that there were many sitesfin the hills around Auckland well suited for a sanatorium. It was -pointed out by Mr. E. H. Potter that the board had previously prepared plans for a sanatorium, but these had been rejected by the Department.
