FASCISM'S ORIGIN.
ECONOMIC NATIONALISM. LONDON, March 15. Broadcasting in the "Whither Britain" series, Professor Patrick Blackett, Professor of Physics, Birkbcck College, arraigned planned capitalism as leading to Fascism, and declared that the only alternative was complete Socialism.
The struggle for markets, he said, led to economic Imperialism, then nationalism, and then war. The world's unrest was due to the politicians' failure to cure unemployment. Germany was attempting to discard the fruits of science, which was the one hope of prosperity for the workers.
The alternative to Fascism was largescale Socialist planning. Fascism was the logical outcome of restriction of output caused by economic nationalism and lowered standards of working-class life.
The assurances that there is no danger of Fascism in England are based on a misunderstanding of the forces which have driven other countries in that direction. •
