'varsity c:lub>s sports. carnival at tepid baths. ' The University Swimming Club hteld ite annual carnival last night at the Tepid Baths. As advantage :was taken for the firsWtime , 'of a-'rule, passed' by' the' club a few years back, to debar students belonging to other swimming clubs from competing, the championships can hardly be refcofsjnisid as college titles. Naturally, in these. circumstances no fast times were recorded. ■ ■ ■ _ As a result of the evening s sport W. Gunn, C. Mathieson, L. Adams, Misses E. Steel, C Butcher and J. Armstrong -were provisionally selected to represent Auckland at the annual inter-'Varsity tournament at Christchurch this Easter. Students debarred last night through being members of other clubs, will take part in special challenge races this afternoon. If they register faster times than those established by winners of races last evening, it is understood that they will be selected to represent Auckland at the New Zealand 'Varsities' meeting at CanterburyAn attempt to lower the New Zealand intermediate boys' breaststroke record for 100 yds, 73 3-ss, held by R.
