STEAMER FOR SALE. ; ] • - ( TO PAY FOR HER REPAIRS, j PITOITOI AWAITS HER FATE. The little steamer Pitoitoi, familiar to the Auckland waterfront for more than 20 years, is advertised as up for s sale to clear her of the cost of repairs being carried out. She is at present on ! the slip awaiting lier fate. Since she was built in 1008 in Auck- ( land the Pitoitoi has been in the upper harbour trade most of the time. The owners ran the vessel to Riverliead when the paper mills were in operation there. The closing of the mills almost coincided with the commencement of work on the Hobsonville Air Base, so the steamer was then diverted to the service of taking materials to that part of the harbour. 1 After regular work in that run had finished, she was sold to a private con- < corn, under whose ownership she was ! entered in the Thames service. Thereafter she changed hands some time ago and was placed on the slip for overhaul. The Pitoitoi is a steamer of 81 tons [gross. Her length is 67ft and breadth 16.1 ft, with a draught of 6ft lin'.
