REFEREES' ANNUAL MEETING. CHAIRMAN'S RESIGNATION. In opening the annual meeting of the ' Auckland Rugby League Referees' Association last evening, when there -was an attendance of over 40 members, the c.hair- . man, Mr. A. Ball, in asking that hi 6 resignation be accepted, after eleven years ; in that capacity during 20 years as a ' member, thanked the association for its r loyal support, and said he felt proud of the progress that had been made by the organisation during his term of office. : The exhaustive report, which was • adopted, stated that, despite the depression of the past year, the association had ! proved a successful unit of the code in ' Auckland, and members had given loyal service. In commenting on referees, it was stressed, as executive opinion, that the highest grade referees should be given preference for the control of important matches, without deviation from promotion principles involved. Much benefit had been derived by members from the'reports of' the official critic, Mr. Hill. The special thanks of the association Were extended to Messrs. L. Bull and A. Ball. Officers were elected as follows:—President, Mr. L. E. Bull (vice Mr. A. Ball, resigned); deputy-chairman; Mr. A. McCowatt; secretary, Mr. W. Simpson (vice Mr. V. Simpson, resigned); treasurer, Mr. P. Rogers (vice Mr. A. Sanders); auditor, Mr. A. E. Chapman; delegate to -New Zealand Referees' Association, Mr. Bull; appointment board, Mr. McCowatt (\ice Mr. Sanders), second nominee to be I approved by A.R.L., Mr. A. Rae; official critic, Mr. J. T. Hill; special committee, Messrs. W. Mincliam, S. Fisher and M. Wetherill; executive committee, Messrs. A. Ball, A. E. Chapman and S. Fisher; vice-presidents, the same as last year, with power to add, were elected. The meeting, by acclamation, acknowledged the services of Messrs. Ball and V.
