CONVENTION IN WELLINGTON. The jubilee convention being held in Wellington at the present tim.e, opened on Wednesday evening with a grand reception in the Town Hall. Miss C. E. Kirk, J.P., was in the chair, and welcomed the large delegation, on behalf of the entertaining unions. The Mayor, Mr. T. Hislop, voiced a. welcome from the city of Wellington, and made reference to the 50 years of past service of tlie organisation. Captain Thomson, on behalf of the Ministers' Association, and Mr. Malton Murray, for the temperance bodies, also spoke words of welcome. Mrs. H. D. Bennett, in welcoming the delegates on behalf of the Maori people, paid a tribute to the splendid work the W.C.T.U. had done and was doing among her people. Mrs. Peryman brought a welcome from the National Council of Women. > All's, T. E. Taylor, in replying, thanked the speakers for their expressions of welcome from the various societies. A varied programme was much enjoyed by the visitors, under the musical direction of Mrs. S. Turner. Songs were given by Misses Doris Black anil Mollie Atkinson. Mr. Macaulay sang "The Changing of the Guard" and gave a Maori song as an encore. The accompanist was Miss N. Grey. A recitation was given by Miss E. Pnrdie. The sessions of convention opened on Thursday morning with a Communion service, conducted by the Rev. Mr. Blanchard in St. John's Presbyterian Church. The business sessions are being held in St. John's schoolroom. Mrs. T. E. Taylor, Dominion president, led the opening devotions.

Tlie roll call followed, when it was revealed that a record attendance of delegates were present, including representatives from many of the Southern and Northern "Y" branches.

Greetings were read by Miss Henderson, and were sent from the worlds president, Miss Ella Boole, and t e world's secretary, Miss Agnes Slack, from Mrs. Lee Cowie, from unions throughout New Zealand, and the National Council of Women. Mrs. Hutchinson brought greetings from the Victorian Union, and Mies S. Pyle from, Honolulu. The meetings are proceeding.
