WIDE RANGE AT TIVOLI.
From time to time milestones appear 111 j the progress of industry. In the film busi-| ness there have been many such, the last great introduction being the talkie, wnica immediately sent the silent picture into the oblivion of non-success. JjoUowmir talkies there have been many rumours ot natural colour photography and even ot television, but neither of them have yebeen realised in the cinemas ot the wor d. The latest introduction in films is the Wide Range electrical sound reproduction equipment, which has already been tried in two Auckland theatres, the Plaza and Iloxy, where, for circumstantial reasons, the installation did not realise all that its proponents expected. However, every favourable condition is at hand to-day tor its reintroduction to-night at the Tivoli Theatre, Newton, where the English horror film "The Glioul" screening together with a modern melocjama, JU'om Headquarters." If the equipment fulfils the promises made for it. the beauty of orchestral music and vocal solos alike should be immeasurably increased for the listener; the cadences of voice and instrument are said to be projected into the auditorium itn an absolute minimum of loss ot the finer inflections and "timbre. The lowest whi6ners are clear-cut and definite, and the loudest orchestral symphonies or incidental music are softened in tone effects when magnified for a theatre audience. Speaking voices are also said to benefit greatly irom the new reproduction system.
