GAMES AT AUCKLAND GREEN.

After two* postponements caused by wet weather, the veteran bowlers were favoured with perfect conditions yesterday afternoon, when they assembled at the Auckland Bowling Club's pavilion. The greens were in beautiful order, conducing to a good deal of excellent play, and in one match there wer«* two drawn heads, a most unusual occurrdlice. In another the opposing rinks tied four times, and nearly all were just as closely contested as the scores indicate.

Wlieter by accident or design, the two oldest members of the association, Messrs. H. 0. Choyce and J. Kendell, were drawn in opposing rinks, and as the well-known Queen Street veteran is senior by a few months to his Karangaliape Road friend, he was called upon to deliver the iirst jack, and the iirst bowl, the members gathering in an alley formation in his honour. The four senior teams competed as under, their respective ages being given in brackets :—- •T. Kendell (94), F. Bluck (89), R. G. Ncwbegin (SS), A. Selby (88) 24, v. M. Moon (87), l'\ Bennett (88), 11. C. Choyce (94), J. V. Dingle (8li), 13; J. A. Adams (87), K. Stevenson (82), F. Clark (S3), T. J. Mclvor (88) 20, v. E. Morrison (83), E. F. Cooksey (85), G. N. Baggott (84), C. Little (82), 18. It was afterwards found that some of the other rinks had a few players older than some of these, but the avertige was brought down by Ihe presence of a fair number who have not reached the age of 70 years, but qualified through having played the game for 21 years or more. The combined ages of the 92 players .came to 0801 years, an average of 74.5. This compares with an average of 75 nt the last gathering of the veteran bowlers of Wellington. where the oldest player was Mr. A. Mills, of .7ohnsonvilie, aged 91, but four years ago in Dunedin the average age was 70.5 years, and the players included two who were 94 years old. The veterans were welcomed by the president of the association, Mr. M. M. McCallum, and by the president of the Auckland Centre, Mr. Raymond Sheath, the latter remarking that the presidency of the Veterans' Association might be said to represent the "crowning glory" in the bowling career of Mr. McCallum, for he had alreadv held every high office that was in the gift of the bowling community. These were the presidency of the Remuera Bowling Club, the Auckland Centre, and the New Zealand Bowling Association. The other ten games resulted as follows :—• >
