WAKEFIELD ST. INTERSECTION.
I wish to draw attention to the dangerous intersection on the sast side of Queen Street at the foot of Wakefield Street. With an ordinary intersection, even a busy one, the pedestrian can look to the right till the middle, and then concentrate on the left, but with the Wakefield Street crossing the other intersections make it hardly possible to decide where the middle is, and even if one does make the correct estimate, there is no guarantee that cars, coming from various directions, will make the same estimate. It is a case of "Where is that one going to?" If the powers would decide on the middle and put a safety zone there, it would mark a definite centre and would enable pedestrians to cross with only one side to look out for at a time, even though there would still be more than one angle to keep an eye on. There is plenty of room for a safety zone. At present the width only adds to the difficulty of direction. I had a narrow escape at this crossing some weeks ago, and since then have heard of others and also of a minor accident; probably there have been others that I have not heard of. C.C.M.
