ROTORUA LAKE.
QUESTION OF THE LEVEL RESEARCH PROCEEDING. (From Our Own Correspondent.) ROTORUA, Wednesday. The connection between the water level of Lake Rotorua and the thermal activity of the locality has recently been the subject of investigation by Dr. Marshall, of the Scientific and Industrial Research Department. Dr. Marshall has not yet completed his work, but will carry it on later and submit a report to Wellington. It is understood that reports dealing with the raising of the level of the lake have already been submitted to the Public Works Department and that these deal with b6th the possibility of raising Lake Rotorua by raising the level of Rotoiti and with the alternative possibility of controlling the water level from the Ohau channel. This last plan is generally considered to be much the more practicable and one involving considerably less risk of substantial compensation. The Rotorua office of the Public Works Department is being supplied from Arapuni with a current meter which will be used to compute the outflow through the Ohau channel. Tt will probably be necessary to take observations over a j period in order to obtain reliable .data in connection with the matter. j
