NO. 5 SCHEME.
CESSATION NOT INTENDED. NO TRUTH IN RUMOUR. "In fairness to the Labour Department, I think it should be made quite clear that the Borough Council has heard no authentic information pointing to the cessation of the No. 5 scheme," said the Mayor of One Tree Hill, Mr. I. J. Goldstine, when referring last evening to statements that had been made that the Government was considering the abolition of the scheme. Mr. Goldstine added that he had approached, the Labour Department, and , he could make a definite statement, that as far as One Tree Hill was coucenied there was no difficulty in the operation of the scheme. It was reported by the clerk that an official of the Department had inspected the relief works in the district and the council would be advised later which of them would be authorised under the amended regulations of No. 5 scheme.
