TENNIS SURPRISE.
Malfroy Extended.—Canterbury First Round. (By Telegraph.-—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. The Canterbury provincial tennis championships opened this morning in fine weather. The courts were slow over overnight rain. Of the matches played in the morning, mainly men's and women's singles, the only surprise was when N. G. NorbertMunns ran the New Zealand champion, Malfroy, to 10—12 in the first set of a match which Malfroy won, 12—10, o—3. In the second round Dymond beat J. T. Fisher, 6—4, G—o; Cant beat Glanvill, 6—2, 6—3; Malfroy beat Morrison. 6—4, 6 4; Rhodes Williams beat J. Fisher, 6—l, 6—4.
