RAIN IN GISBORNE.
BRINGS RANK GROWTH. GISBORNE, this day. While a week's rain has been of immense benefit to pastures, and crops and dairy production should be assisted materially, sheep farmers and orcliardists have not welcomed the unseasonable conditions. Pastures are growing faster than in the middle of spring, and there is a eonsequent serious danger of trouble among sheep, particularly young lambs. While fattening of drafts ear-marked for freezing works will be delayed by the moistureladen feed, the maize crops could not have received rain at a better time. Most of them are now cobbing up, and the additional moisture will be a great heip. There are some excellent maize crops in the district this season, but the total yield is expected to be below that of last year.
